Teff Stamford opened in July 2015 and is located at the entrance of Stamford’s West Side, minutes away from downtown with a beautiful view of the Mill River Playground. Since opening, Teff Stamford has been serving quality and traditional Eritrean & Ethiopian plates at the hands of Chef Hadas Mengesha, a long time resident of Stamford with her husband, Mekonen, since immigrating from Ethiopia in the mid-1980’s.
Teff Stamford is proud to serve cuisine honoring to the beautiful countries we represent. It is a family-owned and operated restaurant and our goal to our patrons is to educate, feed and welcome you into our home.
Teff Stamford’s interior reflects aspects of the land of Eritrea and Ethiopia. With sandy-like floors and wood paneling reflecting the beautiful green landscape of Eritrea and Ethiopia, the walls are adorned with photographs counteracting “stereotypes” of East Africa as well as items traditional to the culture. Our small, intimate space is ideal to our vision of having all of our diners feel as though they are dining in Chef Hadas & the Mekonen-Mengesha home. Diners are always welcome to peek in our kitchen and say hi.

This place is delicious! I went with a friend and we split the Alyssa for lunch and I brought home the La Porchetta for my husband. Both sandwiches were amazing. We didn’t experience a crazy lunch rush the way I expected being so close to grand central, but perhaps we were just lucky. I loved the decor inside (reminded me of sandwich shops in Florence) and the menu looks so good I can’t wait to go back and try the other sandwiches. Truly well done!
Awesome service, great food, filling portions! This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and the waitors were friendly and helpful.
I brought my vegetarian and gluten free friends with me. Basically how it works is you pick 1 meat (or veggie) large portion and 2 smaller veggie options to “sample.” Everything is served on injera, which does a great job of soaking up the sauces. The food was flavorful and we had a great experience here.
